My Naughty Children!
We are only one day into spring break and it is obvious that my children need a little more to do with their day! In their boredom yesterday while I was gone, they decided to short-sheet my bed!! Apparently the idea came to them from a tv show. Mariah caught Alex doing it to her bed and then they both did my bed! Well, the joke was on them when I made them remake my bed at 11pm! Alex had also done Josh's bed, but after remaking mine and knowing how tired Josh was going to be after returning from a late night of curling, he decided to redo that one also ;-) It actually was pretty funny when I went to get into bed and realized what had happened! As I wandered into Alex's room I could hear him snickering, LOL! The funniest part is that we had been watching tv earlier in the evening and he and Mariah were talking about how Mariah had caught Alex doing her bed! I had no clue that these perfect little children would do that to their dear, loving mother!!

Correction
Just a correction to yesterday's blog.......my sister isn't going on a cruise, but is headed to a wonderful, all-inclusive resort for a week. I remembered her talking of wanting to go on a cruise again, but then this opportunity came up for a free resort vacation, and, well......you just can't turn down a deal like that!!! Have a wonderful time, Joyce and Mike!!

Happy Saturday
I see it's been two weeks since I got on here to post. I knew back in January that this was going to be a very busy month and it did indeed, turn out to be quite hectic. March was the culmination of the Quiz Bowl season ending and the deadline for finishing the yearbook and getting it off to the printer. Throw in a few days of work, Ethan being home for a week for spring break, and just the regular daily stuff and it turns into days were I felt like I was meeting myself coming and going! I'm giving serious consideration to taking a personal day next week to not do anything for anyone! Sometimes I feel like the old Stretch Armstrong toy and that everyone is pulling at me at once and I just need to shrink back to being "me" again. These feelings don't happen very often, thankfully, and I know when they do that I've got to take a little time to regroup again so I'll be able to meet the needs of others the way I want to be able to.
Our Quiz Bowl ended in a 1 and 9 season. I started out the season with absolutely no expectations of winning ANY games so to have won the one we did was so exciting for us as a team. It was interesting to be coaching something. I've never done that before and trying to find ways to encourage 8 kids to study for this on top of their regular homework proved challenging. I think we did really well considering who I had on the team. It's interesting to see that some of the one's who were on the team were absolutely NOT the ones getting the highest grades in school. In fact one of them was consistantly getting F's on his report card. He was not able to play in the first two matches because of poor grades due to missing homework assignments. However, a change in his home environment in January allowed him to have a different perspective on life and with lots of encouragement at his new home and from those at school, he cleaned up his grades and went on to become my number one scoring team member for the eight matches in which he played! The overall change in demeanor in this young man has been astounding! That has made this all worth while in itself.
Finishing the yearbook took many hours this month! Getting the last minute pictures and then proofreading the final copy was done Monday. I ended up with printer problems at the school when I was printing the final hard copy that would accompany the disk that gets sent to the factory. I ended up having Ken come down to the school and put the book on our thumb drive to work on it at home. After an hour or so of problems here he managed to get it to print properly! Yea, Ken! My yearbook rep came Thursday and we put it all on disk which should be at the printers by now and be in production. I cleaned up all my stuff from that project that I had in my office here at home and it is packed neatly away at school. There is a strange sense of emptiness and saddness now that it is done. I'm sure that won't last long as something else will soon fill the void!
Ken has been feverishly working on tax stuff for the last two weeks. Our hard drive had crashed last October and all the year's info was lost so before beginning the taxes he had to rebuild all that lost information. That took a week by itself! Since Ken has three companies, he had to do the corporate taxes before he could do our personal ones. Our personal ones have to be done before we can apply for the FAFSA, which is the way to apply for financial aide for college. The corporate taxes are done so hopefully tomorrow we will get the personal ones done and next week I can work on the FAFSA application. What a pain! At this point I think we should just write the government a check for 1/2 our income, skip the forms, and be done with it! That's about what they take anymore.
Josh has finally bought a new car! His old one died in January with about 250,000 miles on it. It just wasn't worth putting a new transmission into that one, so he began a quest for the "perfect" car. It turned out he wanted a 2003 Infiniti G35 so his search began. He scoured the internet sites weekly looking for what he could afford. He lost out on a couple on ebay and had a deal in the works this week for one that fell through when someone offered more than he did. Finally yesterday another one came into the dealer's where he lost the other one and he and the sales guy came to an agreement. So......yesterday afternoon he and Ethan drove into Chicago, did the paperwork, and he received the keys to a shiny, dark gray, 2003 Infiniti G35! They loaded it up and headed to MN for the weekend! This trip will certainly help him break in the car and will probably turn up any problems it may have, which hopefully will be none! He is one happy guy!
Well, this is getting a little long and probably boring so I'll wrap it up. Happy 49th anniversary Wednesday to my mom and dad, and Joyce and Mike-have a wonderful 25th anniversary cruise this week and next week! Wish we were going with you!!!! Soak up some sun for me :-)

It's Official
I was really excited Tuesday morning to see my first robin of spring hoping along the yard! There were times when I thought it just might stay winter forever! Now all of the sudden the birds are back, the days are getting longer, and the time change is here already. It will be so nice to have that extra hour of daylight at the end of the day.
Mariah's basketball season has come to a close. They had a fantastic season and if these same girls play next year they will be a force to reckon with! Tuesday night was parents night. We got to play scrimmage games against the girls and then have dinner. Ken and I both played and it was a lot of fun. I was sweatin' bullets after just minutes in the game and have a whole new respect for all those girls and the wonderful condition they are in! I woke up the next morning and couldn't stretch out my left leg! It felt all swollen behind my knee and I was a little concerned. Thankfully a couple of Aleve later the sensation was gone and it was back to normal! My brain thinks I'm still in my 20's, but my body begs to differ!!!
My quiz bowl team had a historic game this week: for the first time since we began this season I actually had all eight player there for a match!! It turned out to be an extremely well played one, too. We did not win (haven't won any yet) but were ahead at one point and only lost by 26 points, which is three questions. My heart was racing and I was soooo hoping that they would win that one. It was against a school we had already played this season and they whomped us big time, so to end it so close to winning made our day :-)
Ethan got accepted to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville last week so he will be transferring there for his second year of college. It is going to be so different from the university there in Madison and he is really looking forward to the change. The one down side is he won't be able to continue his Hebrew class that he has so enjoyed this year! Who would have guessed? It's sure been fun to watch him at church now that he reads and understands the language. Anytime the minister says what a word means in Hebrew, there sits Ethan checking up on it in his Hebrew Bible! He's even caught a mistake or two.......! Also, the campus is not on the bus line so we probably won't get to see him as much next year.......unless somehow he gets a car. Not sure how that will happen since it now appears he won't be able to continue his internship at the company he worked for last year. As with so many other businesses, they are short on work and won't be able to take him back. He will hopefully be able to find something while he's home for spring break and have it lined up for May.
That's about all to share for this week. It's crunch time for the yearbook so for the next two weeks until the book deadline, all my spare time will be spent working on that. Hard to believe it's almost done!
